1:1 Dingbot (Girl Genius)
After a long hiatus, I am in the process of completing the final assembly of a 1:1 posable model of the Dingbot Prime character from Girl Genius. Posted here are some development shots of the prototype, but over the coming week I will post the build progress of the final print. Those of you who are unfamiliar, Girl Genius (Girl Genius Online Comics) is an brilliant steampunk webcomic written and drawn by Phil and Kaja Foglio. I am currently awaiting permission from them in order to release the final project files. Enjoy! Tirick |

Interesting - now there's something you don't see every day.
Yogi (definitely an out-of-it old fart; but still groovy!) |

So I've build up the main body now, assembly has some fidgety bits, but all in all went fairly smoothly. The white parts are likely to be painted over with a gold/brass paint, mixed to match. I tried edging before assembly but that fared horribly.
I now have the 2-dozen or so small bits to cut out and assemble. I'll likely try for that this weekend, if the kids don't distract me too much. Tirick |

I managed to get a lot further this weekend than I expected, truly. As today is a holiday(at least here in Canadaland), I may actually finish both the assembly and the touch-ups today. Here are some further progress pictures:
All of the bits... Assembled: Sample shot of the forearm/bicep 'retracted', an optional pose: All of the bits, ready for final: Enjoy! Tirick |

Yes in fact! I just received word from them this week. Once I have instructions finished I will be sending them a copy, where they will post it up on their site. I will also likely post a copy here.
Glad to see someone excited to get a copy! Sean |

I read far too many Web comics, and my wife turned me on to "Girl Genius" a couple of years ago. We see Phil almost every year at Comic-Con in San Diego; if we change plans and attend again next year, I would be happy to provide him with an assembled paper Dingbot. :-)

That, truly, would be awesome. I've never had the chance to go to a '-con' of any kind. I hope eventually to find the time myself.
I head you about the webcomics, I follow around 30... or 40. |
