Ah, my mistake, I've gone and assumed you coated the entire foam with acrylic gesso and sanded it, when really you just filled large holes(mistakes) with it, it's the foam that is uneven, because of the gaps between the beads.
The smooth part (bottom front of the fuselage in pic 2), which I thought was smooth sanded gesso must be an underneath paper part.
I couldn't tell because of a bad assumption and no seams

Thanks for the lacquer explanation, I missed that point as well.

In actual fact, you want to be as careful as possible when sanding the foam to meet the subframe. Adding putty to fill one's mistakes only adds building time.

As it turns out, 80-110 pound cardstock is more than rigid enough to cover small holes in the foam. It's at the places where the seams will meet that you want to make sure there are no gaps in the foam or between the foam and subframe.

please continue!,.. this is an awesome eye opener for me and perfect timing for the regulus model I just purchased I was concerned with having that starved horse look and your foam idea will be perfect!,.. I will use 6mm depron to back the bulkheads and keels on both sides, for extra support and thickness

please, please, please continue!

I've come late to the party but I like what I'm learning.

Thanks, Chuck!

I've been away from the modeling table...hunting trip and work. But, I'll get back to it shortly.

Thank you for all the kind words of encouragement. Wonderful community!
