Phosphatine Falieres was a prominent French name brand prior to the turn of the 20th century until WWII. The product was a food for babies and children to promote bone growth. Phosphatine was a regular tool for the Commission for Relief in Belgium during World War I, the organization that launched Herbert Hoover's career. According to one account, it’s halfway between a hot drink and a bowl of pudding. The important part is calcium phosphate, or lime, for building bones.
The instructions and a little advert were printed on the back of each toy. Offered as a premium, this was just one of many advertising promotions created by the company. On Ebay France, Phosphatine Falieres memorabilia is still actively offered for auction. |
