This plane is Czechoslovak license of Soviet Il-14 airliner. Czech designers from Avia Prague factory made longer versions for 32 and then 40 passengers. 11. 10. 1968 was this plane on route Praha - Piešťany (ČSA Flight 351). Immediately after take-off there was one engine failure. Captain of the plane misjudged the situation and made a several errors. Plane crashed near village Ptice west of Prague airport with 13 people dead (10 passengers and 3 crew members). One of dead crew members was First Officer of the plane, former fighter ace from World War II, mjr. Leopold Šrom, who in both western and eastern front shot down 8 German planes definitely and 2 else probably. |
