Here are 2 experimental versions of the F-16.
The F-16/79 was born from politics and faded away when the political climate changed. It was a degraded version of the F-16 for export and used the older J79 engine. Former F-16 FSD #8 (the second two-seat F-16 ever built) made its first flight in this configuration at the end of october 1980. You can read more about it here. The J79 was then replaced with an F100 and the plane continued to serve until 1994 (recce testbed then CAS and night attack systems). In 1980, F-16A FSD #6 was delivered to General Dynamics for conversion into an AFTI (Advanced Fighter Technology Integration) testbed. It received the canards from the YF-16 CCV and a spine with additional electronics. During its carreer it got some additional bumps, lost its canards and changed colors. It was retired in january 2001 after having been used for some JSF testing. You can read more about it here. This is a redraw/recolor of Bruno's 1:300 F-16 rescaled to 1:200. There's a build thread here (in french). |
