This is HMAS Perth in 1/600 scale. The camouflage scheme is two-tone gray on the starboard side and solid dark blue-gray on the port side. The port side camo was an experiment. She left port in this scheme on her last sortie.
Perth was sunk in Sunda Straight by Japanese naval units in a night action in which Perth and USS Houston stumbled into a Japanese invasion fleet at night. Houston was also sunk. The survivors of both ships were taken prisoner and spent the rest of the war constructing Japanese military railroads in southeast Asia. The movie "Bridge on the River Kwai" portrays some of the hardships the survivors endured while in captivity. Wayne |
