Google Maps USS Constitution
Take a walk around the decks and inside of of the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor using Google Maps.
Here are two different access points to USS Constitution: https://www.google.com/maps/views/vi...tch=95&fovy=75 https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3725...N_v9rA!2e0!3e2 Panoramic view of below decks here: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3724..._jzBA!2e0!3e11 Upper deck in winter: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.3732...laMMA!2e0!3e11 Here is an overview of the Constitutions neighborhood, the Museum is located a couple of blocks away to the north of the ship. https://www.google.com/maps/@42.373167,-71.0560868,17z You can also walk around inside of the adjacent US Constitution Museum. It is very easy to get lost in the twisty little corridors, almost all alike, of the Constitution Museum. |

Thanks for this. That first link is very interesting indeed. Every time I see a picture inside a lower gun deck on one of those ships it amazes how the gunners survived a sea battle.

Many didn't survive unscathed. The impact from cannonballs on the ship's side knocked loose splinters (not as we know them today) which were large jagged pieces of wood which would create horrible wounds that were treated by amputation, if possible, or resulted in being set aside to bleed out, an early form of triage. The casualty rate was increased by gunports being battered in and cannons torn loose from their mountings , becoming in actuality loose cannon crashing freely around deck and into people before being secured. All in all, the lower gundeck was not a pleasant place to be in a close-quarters battle.

Great place to visit. I really enjoyed being at the ship and the entire harbor area.

Thanks for the link. I have the Revell model in 1/96 and this will help with some of the details.
