Paper Soldiers book from Edward Ryan

I've been lurking around this section of vintage paper models, but haven't contributed, until now that I found this book.

On the San Antonio modeling event last February, I found this book on sale. It was very strange to find something paper-related item in the event so I used part of my savings to get it.

Upon starting reading it, I found that it is a limited edition book, signed by the author, and with great deal of history of paper soldiers. It made me remember the little paper soldiers I had when I was a little kid in Sinaloa, Mexico.

It goes on describing the editorials of this little gems around the world, ineach chapter. It even talks about them from the 18th Century editions.

It has many illustrations full color of paper models of soldiers. Mr. Ryan (a former CIA executive) had a huge collection of these paper soldiers. He doesn't talk about much on 3D models, but he mentions one Australian kit Of a WWII diorama with airplanes.

I found that Mr. Ryan passed away in 2009. Too bad, he would give interesting insights.

A very good book on my shelf, Edward Ryan adds passion to a theme that pertains paper and modeling.

Cool book! On your photobucket account, what is the "Spitfire and bomber squadron"? Looks neat.

You mean the last photo? That is a kit from the 40's made of paper. It was published in Australia. The author did not added more photos of the kit, but he describes the kit with many goodies, like the antenna and cars.

He also says that this kit, along with others from the paper soldiers kits, where very popular. And I found that there are some enthusiast still out there, mainly for board gaming.
