Vintage? Rialto Bridge, Venice
OK, it is only thirty years old - but in just about 12 years scouring the internet I have only come across this model once. At a guess I would say not many have been sold: the original size of ca. 59 x 42 cms makes it rather unwieldy. Ditto for the model base, which is only slightly smaller.
On the plus side: any technical draughtsman can design a fairly simple paper model, but it takes an artist to make it really attractive. This Rialto bridge was designed and painted by Venetian artist Massimilio Longo - look him up on Google Images. The very subtle colouring makes this a very attractive model. I scanned it and sized it down to A4 size (30 x 21 cms). The original model gives no scale. At this size it is still very easy to build, so micro specialists would probably go at least one step further - I may have a go myself, after this is finished. The pictures show the cover picture, an uncoloured impression of the model. Next a sample of the drawing and colouring; then the first stages of my build. |

Next step. Various elements are being prepared: the other side of the Canal Grande, the bridge, the stalls on top of it.
And why not check out my New Photo Collection on http://www.flickr.com/photos/zeist_bouwplaten/ - and why not send me your own favourite pictures? |

Looks great, really like the little model. I was there in 2010 and again last November. So beautiful.

Finished the Rialto diorama. At a guess: scale ca. 1/200th. Read up the building history of the bridge (it was opened in 1591) and the surrounding buildings on Wikipedia - very interesting.
And if you ever go there: the water bus (vaporetto) is a fantastic (and cheap!) way to get a first impression! |
