As a side note, when we acquire scans of vintage models through friends or over the internet, there's often the question of the intended size of a completed model. Without the original page, the size and scale of the model is at best, a guess.

The models in Tom's post were designed to use a vintage, Scandinavian matchbox as their base. That's all well and good, but how big were the matchboxes? The modern American boxes I use to light my old propane torch measure 2" long by 1 3/8" wide. This looks to be the same size as the vintage matchboxes, but can anyone say for sure?

Also, I found an interesting word tonight, Phillumeny. (My spellcheck did not like that word at all). Phillumeny is, according to Antiqueweek.com, "the hobby of collecting matchboxes, matchbox labels, matchbooks, matchbook covers, and other items match-related." So, those of us who choose to to build and display these models on the properly-sized matchboxes, we have now entered into a new sub-hobby, Phillumeny.

And for more information on the history of the Swedish Match Monopoly, my Swedish ancestry urges you to look up Ivar Kreuger, The Match King. It's a remarkable story. They've even made movies about Ivar and his dealings.

With the information from these two sources, it should be possible to determine the intended size of the models.

Regarding vintage matchbox sizes, here is one example I found of a matchbox from the same time period as the models: https://ehive.com/collections/5984/o...board-matchbox
Its size is listed as 14mm x 78mm x 45mm which is roughly 1/2" x 3" x 1 3/4".
