En Gammel Byport -Old City Gate Familie-Journal
Here is my finished En Gammel Byport - An Old City Gate from Familie Journal.
Footprint is 6 in. x 2.2 in(15.3 cm x 5.6 cm) and 7.4 in (19 cm) tall. Parts A-4 and B-4 locations were fun to hunt down. There are a lot of surface mounted parts. I would suggest the botton glue tab be cut off and the bottom of the protrusions edge glued to the side of the main structure. Some pics of the finished model: Front Back Side 1 Side 2 Side 3 Detail 1 Detail 2 When I glued Part C, which is the tunnel interior, on it came out too long so I did some minor surgery. Perhaps I should have raised the positioning up a little more instead of mounting it flush with the edge of the tunnel coping. One thing I noticed is that I dry fit and dry fit to make sure it looks good but when I apply glue and hold until set the part it is off kilter when I look at it. Maybe I should change the genre of music I listen too when building.

Flowers of Romance by Public Image LTD probably wouldn't be good for papercrafting.
Wonderful colors. Nicely done. I really don't know of too many of these that don't involve some head-scratching. I guess I didn't realize there were that many parts to this one. Hadn't looked at it for some time. It will certainly look nice on the shelf, but you might want to rotate it occasionally to see all the interesting aspects of each side

Actually very reminiscent of some of the MicroModels!

Can't wait to get into building these Familie Journal models which are lurking in my files. Nice build , Doug. It sounds as though, with a good number of these early models, no matter the publishing house, they are fraught with construction puzzles which, in turn, makes the challenge even more interesting. Are you planning on building more of these ?

I'd been thinking about tackling something like this for quite a while but I know that I couldn't make them look as nice as you do, Doug. And may I ask what music do you bop to whilst building?

Thanks for the interest guys.
Derek, yes I plan an building some more. I have a watermill started but got distracted and will continue with it some time in the future. Right now I am eyeing one called Huset, hvor Vefrmanden bor which translates to "The House where the Weatherman lives". The sub-assemblies have large numbers on them. There is a legend on the cover sheet with an explanation of what the sub-assembly numbers mean. Examples: 1. De fire Vindes Taarn = The Four Winds Tower 2. Vaevestuen for Solguld og Maaneskin = The loom for Sun Gold and Moonlight There are 20 such names in the legend.
