Hi to everybody
My name is Giampaolo (JP for friends )
I'm a ship modeller since near 20 years, always building wooden static models. I live in Italy (in Rome) but always I'm out of my city for job reasons.. Now I'm trying to understand the world of paper modeling (always looking at ship models) and I hope to find here tricks and help about this new world (for me) of modeling. I'm collecting from Internet some paper models that I would like to try to build, but first of all I would ask you (expert paper modellers) a question : do you have any suggest about a simple (but complete) ship paper model to start ? welcome to the forum when you find a model to build do post your build photos and do ask more questions are for help if you want during a build. No matter what problem on a build there is going to be someone who had the same problem to sort out.

Sure, once I'll decide to start a paper model I'll post my job and I'll make a lot of questions. Just I have to decide very well from which model to start.... Are about 20 and more years that I build ship models and now I have seen that many paper models are very similar in concepts from my usual way to build an holl (false keel and bulkheads) As I told in my presentationI have foud in Internet some interesting models... but the first question is : should I glue (or print) the layout of keel, bulkheads and decks on a strong paper? and then cut and assemble all? As I told, I have seen many concepts for paper ships similar to wooden building, but I'm not very usual to paper.... which thickness should I use? and which kind of paper ? Many thanks for your answer Ciao Jp

Welcome aboard, JP. Your skills should translate well into paper construction. Card stock is just another type of sheet goods. You will need to laminate layers to build up thickness for framing/keels/etc. If it'll glue wood, it'll glue paper so you're fine on adhesives.
Check out the cardmodelling FAQ files at Card Modeling FAQ for almost all the detail you could ever want. For the specifics on your questions I'll defer to our maritime specialists. Usually, the model kit/plans will specify the weight or thickness of the paper/card needed. You can also browse the maritime section for similar model builds and see what they did. Yogi
