New modeler from Michigan
Cold weather has set in here so it's time to settle back in to the bench and get some stuff built/finished.
I'm primarily a plastic ship guy, esp aircraft carriers, as I served aboard USS ESSEX as a snipe in the 60's. I also do a little wood ship modeling. In progress USS ESSEX 1/700 as commissioned, ESSEX late WWII 1/350, Vintage kit ESSEX 1960 (my era) 1/540, USS wasp LHD1 to be done as ESSEX LHD2 1/350, ESSEX 32 gun Frigate from 1799, plus a bunch of other ships in the stash. I do a lot of kitbashing and scratch building to get what I want and am always looking for more and better ways to get what I need. I'm always amazed at the paper Aircraft carriers I see being done. Really like the "oil canning" effect paper gives to the hull shape. It sure looks like the ships as I remember them. Looking forward to learning modeling in a new dimension. EJ

Welcome, EJ! Paper is just another type of sheet goods; think of it as thin/fine wood (with astounding graphics potential). Looking forward to seeing what you'll create.
