Stumbled on this website looking for information about Serenity model from Firefly. I've enjoyed building models in all kinds of media since the 1950's. When I was a latchkey kid back in the 1950s, I used to build a lot of my own toys with cardstock and balsa - mainly castles. Then army forts. When I was six, my older sister let me try my hand at building a Guillows balsa kit. Those were the days when the sheets of balsa had an inked outline on 1/16th sheet stock. She let me use my dad's Gillette double edge blue blade. The only thing I cut out were my fingerprints. Never did build that plane. I'm retired now with a 15 month old granddaughter. I can't for her to bet old enough so I can show her the proper way to print out models, wield a steel straightedge, and an X-acto knife. We are going to have fun together.

Welcome to the forum.

Todays kids kind card models fascinating. I think with all the modern technologies, they kind the simplicity of building things from a flat bit of paper quite appealing

The Guillows models are still available:
See: Paul K. Guillow, Inc.

I can remember buying Comet stick and tissue kits for as little as 10 cents in the fifties.

Many of the stick and tissue plans are still available.
See: Ken Horne Homepage
And : Previous Plan pages
And : Cleveland Model&Supply Co., Inc.—Model Airplane Plans

Google, "comet models plans" and look at the images.
