Stubled upon this forum. Trying to learn all I can about flat layouts of various cones.

Welcome and have fun with paper.
Is paper modeling your interest?
Descriptive geometry will help, also HVAC sheet metal work, all kinds of things can be unfolded to a flat sheet not just cones.
Look for Currell's V-2 rocket, has cones and truncated cones.
