Hi from another new member
Hi
I am happy to have found this site. I have not made many paper models (maybe 3?) models over the years but it has always been an interest. What brought me here was the MSL / Curiosity Rover which I wanted to build for a prop for a talk at my son's school. My interest is in space and launch vehicles. I noticed that there is a model of the Taurus II (now Antares) which I am very interested in building. I see several others that look very interesting but with limited time I shouldn't get to far ahead of myself... |

Welcome aboard! Just ask if you need help finding anything (or figuring out cryptic directions ...).

BTW - let us know how the talk goes at the school. The educational variant of Curiosity is the quickest build (with operating suspension) but may be a bit small. You can build the 1:12 scale version(s) and make an operating suspension with the simple suspension parts - just print an extra set of the pages and cut out/build the parts like the educational one.

Thanks! It has been fun to build so far. Still working on the model, hope to finish in the next week or two. I found that my laser printer (dell1350cnw) didn't like to handle heavier paper. I used my inkjet printer since it could handle heavier paper, but it makes it a little trickier to make sure I don't smear the colors.

Welcome.
That Curiosity rover model looks great. Interested to see the finished model. Good luck and again, welcome Robin

To make sure that colors don't get messed up, I usually give the pages a very light coat of Krylon Clear Satin or Gloss before I do anything with the templates. I haven't had any gluing issues from this, and it makes the model more forgiving when glue gets in the wrong place. It just wipes off ... with no smears. You might give it a shot.

Looking really good! I usually claim intentional weathering for those little spots here and there (lot's of dirt all over Curiosity already - should have given her a good coat of wax before launch ...).
