Just joined up. My primary interest is in building wooden half-hulls, but it's great to see what other people have done with renderings.

Welcome aboard tmccan. I used to dabble in half-hulls myself and have enclosed a we pic of one I did a few years ago.

All the best and happy modelling

Bernie

Wow. Nice work. I tend to keep mine simpler - mostly due to lack of artistic capability.

That is an absolutely gorgeous finish on the hull. What type of wood is that and how did you finish it?

The topside wood is basswood, and the bottom is sapele (a.k.a. African mahogany). There's a thin piece of cedar for the waterline.

The finish is plain old Minwax Polyurethane gloss, three coats sanded between. Also - a little trick I picked up from my mentor - I used rubbing compound on it after the last coat. That smooths the finish out, plus it kind of knocks back the glossiness of the finish - seems to look a little better on models this size.

Thanks for the kind words.
