Newbie Modeler
Hi y'all, just found this forum - lots of cool models here I'm new to card modeling but I've been using card model plans for RC use. So far i've built a CRJ-200, Fairchild MetroIII, DC-9-10, DC-6B and a Pilatus Porter. I'd post a link but I guess I need to be approved first.
I hope to start my first paper model soon! Ethan |

Welcome! Thanks for joining the forum. Kick your shoes off, look around, ask questions and just in general enjoy yourself. Saw your post where you RC'd Sumato's plane. Looked real good. Oh, pics, we love pics!

Welcome, Ethan. It's an anti-spam protocol. I think it is around five posts before you can post links. If you have photos on your computer, you should be able to add them as attachments to posts, if you use Post Reply, not Quick Reply.

Thanks guys! Here are some attached pics of my new ACA R/C CRJ-200 (Sumato design) an a DC-9-10 (old Dutch KLM plan I think?) that went into a fatal spin last fall.
After years of making pesky fiberglass molds and breathing wood dust, I've found these paper/card models are soooo much more fun to use as 'plans'. |

Ooooff!! I presume repair was out of the question. It was a good looking model too.

Yep it was a harsh crash but luckily all the electronics were fine so I stuck them in the CRJ above. The maiden flight was a few weeks ago and it went well!

Ethan,
Welcome to the fold. we have a couple of other modelers who use paper models to make micro RC aircraft but you are the first to do it in a large scale and the model looked great Tell us how you go about 'converting' these to flying models. What do you to power these ducted fans? Jim Nunn

Hi Jim,
The construction part of the build is usually simple, I design an internal structure (usually a mix of wood, depron foam and some carbon fiber) and use the blown up paper plans for sheeting and former bulkheads. The key is to keep it light while maintaining a scale shape. I use micro size servos to power the control surfaces, electric retracts for the gears and lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries to power the ducted fans (EDFs). In this case, I am using 64mm diameter fans with 4400kv 'brushless' motors running through 60amp speed controllers powered by a single 14.8v 5200mah battery. Because the fans suck so many amps and spin near 50,000 RPMS at full throttle, I only get five minutes of flight time. Prop planes are much simpler - I get 15 minutes of flight time with an 11.1v 3000mah LiPo on my Metroliner. Here is a video of three of my airliners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRcB...2StvqlqWKipo6A Ethan |

That crash must have been painful. Thanks for sharing
