Howdy

Hello all, I’m from Albuquerque, NM. I’ve never built paper models before, but it’s very fascinating. My favorite subjects right now are aircrafts. In the future, I want to design an aircraft paper model from 3 views; however, I think it’s best for now to take “baby steps” towards that goal. Where can I find information for those that are starting out? Video tutorials would help me out tremendously if available.

Derrick

There is a section in the Forum called "Design Threads".
You may find what you need there.
See: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/design-threads/

Be advised that different designers use different methods.

In general, a black and white model is designed first in a cad or other program as a vector model.
Then the model is colored with Gimp or another graphics program.

For your first models you can draw the model on paper and then color it.
Scan the model and it is ready to share.
The "Going Merry" was designed in this manner.
See: https://ninjatoes.wordpress.com/2004...e-going-merry/

Many good suggestions here:

Welcome to the forum and to the hobby Derrick.

I suggest simply googling for papercraft and/or paper modelling tutorials, tips, techniques, and/or basics for a start. Also search on youtube for videos using similar search terms. There's plenty of stuff out there; so you'll no doubt find something.

Something I found very helpful was checking out model build threads right here on this forum. In particular, the CL-41 build thread by Dave Winfield (airdave here on the forum) was exceptionally enlightening for me.

If you have still to obtain models to build, a good place to start, IMO, is paper-replika.com. There, you'll find a wealth of freely available paper models in a wide range of categories, including aircraft - both civilian and military. Many of the aircraft models are reasonably easy to build, and would be suitable for a beginner.

I wish you success and great joy in your new found hobby that we all here already greatly enjoy.
