Greetings! Trying Something New!

Hello All!
I've been doing paper models, in one form or another, for most of my life. For the past few years, I've done a number of space models. Now, however, I've decided to venture into model sailing ships.
Where sailing ships are concerned, I've been modeling them for a long time. But, I've had two Dover "Cut & Assemble" models in my personal library for a while, the "Mayflower" and the "Santa Maria". I decided the time was right to build one, the latter, but I bought another one for the purpose.
Anyway, stumbled upon this site whilst looking to see if there were other builds of these kits, and liked many of the models I saw. So, I joined.
This is where the Dover "Santa Maria" was on the night of April 4th, 2016. Since then, the top has been permanently fitted and detailed. Some wood was used (is that okay?) for masts and other details, and fabric sails were made.
Glad to be on board!
Cheers,
Robert

Is a commercial model?

It is... well, was. Been out of print for a few years. It's Dover's "Cut & Assemble Santa Maria". As I mentioned, I replaced some pieces with wood and fabric. Been an interesting build thus far.

Hi Robert! Welcome to the forum. Thanks for joining. That's a really nice model of the Santa Maria. Using wood in a paper model isn't a problem here. Just as long as it's got some paper in it. I'm kidding. Models that are mixed media are, well. . . mixed media models. For the most part we're not purists here. For those that are - that's cool too. We're glad you're here. Welcome aboard!

I'm posting an image of the model as of this evening in the Ships section. I'll probably do a write up on it on my blog when I finish.
Cheers!

Looking forward to it.

Edit - So I'm a day behind (sigh). Looks very good.
