New guy looking for a hobby
Hello all,
Another new guy here... Found this site and have been looking through all the way cool builds and thought, well why not try it out. I'll admit to liking aviation but I think my real interest is in railways, like industrial and steam the best. I would love to learn how to build some realistic wagons and locos. I found a Polish company called Modelik that had some really nice card kits but not sure if they sell to the US or if they are available elsewhere. They have one called a GLS 30 with two skips I liked but I'm sure are beyond my ability even if I can find one. Would also like to try modeling some industrial steam engines if I ever get the skills. A beam engine would be neat I think. Anyway that's me |

I buy direct from Modelik. Great to deal with and most helpful.
They post to Australia so I fail to see why they would not post to USA. The kits arrive here very quickly I might add. All the kits I've bought so far have had Polish instructions. I just scan them and run them through an online translator. Not brilliant but good enough to understand. |

Welcome to the insanity. Modelik does sell direct to the US. The prices of their kits is quite reasonable. but the postage can get a bit steep...which is why it is best to buy in quantity or, best yet, have someone in the area that you could make a combined order with. I would recommend finding some of the freebie download kits to get started with and develop the skills needed for the more advanced printed kits. Thankfully, paper modeling does not have a steep learning curve.

As a new guy, I'd work on developing technique with some of the free locomotives out there. I did these for a nursing home a couple years back, Bastelbogen: Oldtimer-Lokomotive
