Hello//Looking for help on 1/200 Shiratsuyu

I normally work with plastic/resin USN/IJN 1/350 models. I just finished a 1/350 model of Juneau. My father was on the Hornet CV 8 for its entire WWII career and I have finally completed models of all ships with Hornet the day she was sunk. Juneau is not yet on the site above.

Having finished that model I wanted to build one of the Shiratsuyu class IJN destroyer that first put a torpedo into Juneau on 11/13/42. I discovered no plastic or resin kit of that class exists. So I got the GPM 1/200 paper model of it. Upon arrival I realized the card portion also had to be purchased. I now have both. Needless to say this is my first paper model.

If any member of this site has built this model I would love to hear from you. I have a fairly good clue what most of the parts are but no idea what sequence they go together on the model. My wife is Polish but she cannot translate the publication for me.

I salute all of you who do paper ship models on a regular basis. I like the idea of the model being already painted. I am not wild about the idea of doing structural engineering on the card hull. Looks like one false move and you have a major malfunction on your hands ha! Truth be told I am kind of looking forward to the challenge if I can just figure out what goes where and when. I hope someone here can help me with it. If not I will take a stab at it sometime soon.

first word of advice.scan all your pages into computer.then you have the option to reprint any parts you mess up.works for me

Couldn't agree with Herky more. Scan the model into your computer before you do anything else. That way when, not if, you make a mistake, you just print off another copy. If you need to print off a copy onto thick card, instead, print off a copy on paper and laminate to thick card. Leave under some heavy books to dry, overnight at least, 24 hrs is better. ymmv.

My experience with Polish Models is often carefully working through the diagrams following the number sequence gets you there, however those moments when you need help, I found translating the thing yourself using one of many translating services found on the web. The Google one: "Polish English translation" does the job but you have to carefully type each word from the instructions provided, It accepts no mistakes, gets results.

I downloaded a translate program called "Babylon".
I just scan the polish instructions and file them in my documents along with the kit parts ( for reasons already mentioned by others).
Then it is a simple matter to run them through Babylon. No typing needed.
The translation is not perfect but good enough to get by and get the general gist.
