Hello all,

I've been building plastic kits since I was a kid and scratch-built wooden models for almost as long, but I'm new to paper modelling. I enjoy all models but tend to focus on ships for the simple reason that the finished models fit on my shelves more easily than planes!

Welcome. Cut your teeth on a few free models before you start buying a whole lot of pre-printed intricate models. You need to get a feel for how paper behaves

Part of where I caught the bug from is that I have a fascination for US armored cruisers and although a scratch-built Tennesse-class is still in the works for some day, I saw that Orel offered a paper kit of USS Brooklyn and I bought it, thinking it seemed interesting. Looking at the kit, it is, indeed interesting, and a whole other avenue of challenge.

I am going to build a CSS Virginia that I downloaded first, in order to get a feel, but I won't probably be able to hold back from the ACR for very long.

When I do start that project (USS BROOKLYN), I'll most likely scan the sheets before cutting so that if/when I mess something up I can make replacement parts. I think that's a good plan.

That is a very good plan. My ships never turn out well, but I'm sure some of our experts can help you out if you run into a bind.
