Switching from tin to paper

Hi, I'm Dave from Santa Cruz. I've been gaming with tin soldiers for 35 years and recently discovered the joys of paper soldier with Peter Dennis' wonderful books. I'm here looking for scenery and ship models to go with my American Civil War paper boys.

Welcome, you will find all sorts of stuff here, and many links to fuel your interests. Check out ct ertz postings, he does a lot of Civil War ships.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for joining. We had someone here asking about CW paper soldiers the other day. Sounds like the Peter Dennis books may be what she wanted. Do you have any book titles or ISBN numbers that you could post or, even better, links to said books? I echo what Mike said about the CT Ertz CW ships and boats. He has a bunch, some free and some for sale at ecardmodels.com. Happy hunting!

Paper Soldier books by Peter Dennis

Hi fellas, check Helion in the UK (website below). His books include rules for playing games with the little guys. Amazon.com also carries the books but check the prices! Surprisingly, shipping from the UK has been cheaper for me. But your results may vary.

Each book contains many pages of paper soldiers for a given period, which he encourages you to COPY and print rather than cut out of the booklet.

There are also naval books: every single ship in the battles of Trafalgar and the Spanish Armada.

But: these are generally not 3D. But Mr. Dennis does include terrain pieces (and siege equipment) that are 3D models.

Best regards to all you scissors and paper fans,
Dave

The website: (note: the rules here wouldn't allow me to post the exact URL, so...

Go to Helion.co.uk and click on "Advanced Search"in the upper right of the page. In Advanced Search, search for author Peter Dennis.

it will allow you to post full links after you have 10 posts, so, seeing this is number 2, you have 8 more to go before you can post links, which might go quickly

Thanks for the helpful replies, you all really know how to make a newbie feel welcome. I'm glad some of you found those books. I have glued, cut out and pasted several armies now. My favorite and definitely the most colorful are the Wars of the Roses guys. I've been using Osprey Campaign series books to set up and play some of the more significant battles. Great fun!

Question for y'all: should I move this conversation to a different forum than the Welcome board?

Regards, Dave

As a one time wargamer myself (54 mm before Airfix came on the scene !) I can tell you that you'll discover many sites and surprises for your scenery etc. Check the" Links " up there on the right hand corner for a start and also John Wagensell's generous and extensive site listings. Then just check your image sizes when printing anything out and you'll be hooked like we all are....
