This would be too heavy for many smaller models and for them I'll use either a 65 lb. card or a 67 lb. card. I've attached a pair of photographs showing some of the product available from Neenah. I look for a cardstock with a smooth finish, as it seems to give the best prints for modeling.

Ultimately, the choice of paper is a personal preference and a bit of experimentation is worth the effort.

Score and fold,

Hi Thumb Dog. That's awesome that you said that because I actually had just come home with 110lb Neenah cardstock. So right on with that lol

We'll see how it goes, I am cutting a rather small Ladybug as we speak so that'll be a good testament for me and this thinkness of paper. Hopefully it all works out.

I think Don Boose's current commander at his home does animals. You might try to contact her via a PM to Don.

Hi all,
I finished the Ladybug and the cardstock was perfect. Much better than the 90lb I was trying to use. Even with it being small it seemed to work well for me. I'm pretty happy with it. Here's the finished product, minus the stand that it came with as I just didn't care too much for it.

I do like the animals, will probably do another one before moving on to something else. Anyway, let me know what you think. Thank you!

Nice. I wonder if I could repaint it to the Japanese beetles that are destroying so many plants around here

The ladybug looks good.

You should color the cut edges of the cardstock to hide the white. It will make the finished model look much better. You can either try to match the color of the printed area or use a shade of grey.

Hi Doug, I was just talking with jaffro about this as I was finishing up the Lady Bug. I was thinking it looked a bit unfinished or sloppy without them colored. Since it was only my second build I was really just trying to learn the hobby and different techniques needed to complete it (and still look presentable) but this stood out to me and I'll probably attempt to color them on my next one.

I do like the idea of doing them grey rather than trying to match the color, that could save a ton if time. I'll have to try them both out. Thanks!
