Greetings

Hey, everyone!

I spent some of the most cherished moments of my youth obsessively building plastic models. As an adult (I'm forty-eight), I have many times looked at kits on the web and thought maybe I should get back into it.

On one of those jaunts, I discovered card models, and immediately thought that if I ever did get back into it, it will definitely be to build one of those (they obviously existed when I was a kid, but I had absolutely no awareness of them). The work people do with these is just incredible. And I love the minimalism of it. A bunch of paper, a few simple tools . . .

Last night I built my first paper model: a little speed boat from Schreiber. It's a very simple model, but I wanted to make it as well as I possibly good, figuring that I would have no chance of tackling the 1000-piece projects if I couldn't true up a simple model with good seams. And honestly it came out pretty good (one of the tricks, I've discovered, is to figure out what "slow" is, and then go about half that speed

I have some questions, but I suppose I'll just dig around the site and see if I can figure them out. Good to be here! Hope everyone is able to fit some building into their busy schedules today.

I live in Nebraska in the U.S., by the way. If you live in my general area, I'd love to meet up some time to talk about creating miracles with card stock.

Steve

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for joining. Take a look at the First Cuts - A Lounge and the Tips & Tricks subforums. Lots of solid info there especially for someone new to the hobby. Also take a gander at the Downloads section. Lots of models from simple to complex and they don't cost a penny.

Welcome to the forum, Steve.

I've made a few simple Scheiber models myself, back in the day. They're excellent for beginners.

But where are your pictures? We want pictures!

A lot of us here are ex plastic builders who like yourself discovered the vast wonders of paper/card. I'm sure like me the better you get at doing it Steve the more addictive it becomes.

Steve, Hello from Kansas City

Once you have ten posts, posting images, downloading, posting links, etc. becomes easier.

We do like photos. If you'd like to post a photo or two, you can use Attachments to upload. Just hit 'Go Advanced' and there will be a paperclip towards the top. Click on that and you can upload photos.

Hello and welcome. Sounds like you fall into the same category as most of us here. Plastic as a youngster, then discovered the world of paper modeling later in life. Not to worry, as long as you enjoy building.
