Hello From California. Wife wants to build a Paper model
Hello Everyone,
My wife wants to build a paper model. Specifically she wants to build Neuschwanstein Castle. I bought one online a month ago that never showed up and the place that I bought it from in CZ does not return emails so I am in the process of canceling the charge on my credit card. I am now searching for a model online since it does not seem to be easy to find a place that sells models. I also reading up on what kind of paper to use when I found this site. Any suggestions are welcome. I have never built a paper model before and it looks interesting. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to everyone. Richard |

And best of all, it is free, and when you mess up, you can reprint

Thank You Rickstef
What cardstock weight do you recommend? I have read anywhere from 65# to 120#.
Also that is funny. The castle model is by Japanese and my wife is Japanese. Thanks |

Yes, you will discover what you like best to work with.
don't spend a lot of money on special paper, you should be able find a pack from 50 to 250 sheets from $5 to $15 If you want to start out, get a pack of paper from a Michaels or Joann, that way you can practice, and mess up, and not put a big dent in your wallet

When you download from Canon Creative Park make sure you choose the paper size you want to use. There is a choice for A4 or USLtr. A4 is a little longer and narrower than USLtr. A4 is the standard outside of the USA and is not readily available in the USA.
110# index/199 gsm or 65#(or sometimes 67#) cover/177 gsm are two of the most used paper weights. The weights in pounds or grams per square meter will be on the packaging. You will most likely catch the paper model making virus so go ahead and buy some of both. Any store that sells office supplies or craft supplies with have that cardstock. Try to build the model using the 110#/199gsm cardstock. I have built a few of those Canon Creative Park models using that weight and it works out OK.

This has a lot of large flat panels, some people like to call them walls. Laminating an extra piece of card to the insides will strengthen them and make it easier to keep them flat. When laminating you don't have to go all the way to the edges to strengthen the piece. Leave room for tabs and things that are needed to join the pieces.
Canon has a bunch of great models and really good instructions. Good Luck! Mike |

This might not be the most realistic looking, or complicated model... but it's by Ichiyama, which means its precise and perfect.

Thank you Everyone.
I downloaded the model and am off to the Stationary store once they open. I had bought the Schreiber Bogen model from Betexa in CZ in early DEC but it never showed up and they don't return emails so I am happy I found a download.
Thanks Everyone Richard |
