hello all. new recruit from the uk reporting. ive been making models of all sorts for over 40 years,but have yet to delve into the world of card modelling. not sure where to begin so may be pestering the forum to give me some pointers if thats ok!

Hello and welcome. Of course the best way to begin is free n easy kits. There are many places, such as here, to download a kit and practice.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, there are so many knowledgeable people here, some one is sure to have an answer.

you name it,ive made it! currently im into ww1 aircraft, and ships from the age of sail and ancient\ classical vessels. however im open to anything with character and i do love big kits with tons of detail,the more the better.

i do understand however that paper models are a different animal so i need to start simple.

You won't go far wrong starting with a free model from Canon.

There are lots to chose from with varying levels of complexity and you can just keep printing pages as you make mistakes and learn.
I've seen a fairly simple looking viking ship on there that might be a good starter for you?

Like you, I'm a fairly experienced modeller, however I've only started paper modelling in the last couple of years.
It's like starting again! It's good fun though.

thanks for the link! thats a good place to start theres so much to choose from im not sure where i want to go. in the end im aiming for kits with gazillions of parts and an end result of a super duper model.
ive seen some on the internet which have stunning levels of detail,made all the more amazing when you discover they are paper!
thats where id like to end up.

I built a bunch of their automaton toys when I first started. They a fairly simple have great instructions, and are real crowd pleasers, especially if you have kid/grandkids. They are a great way to learn the basic skills.

thanks for the advice. im going to probably start with the da vinci glider as that has always appealed to me since i saw a replica of it in florence. now to get tools!
