Hello Decatur, we all had to begin somewhere! (and this is a great place to do it)...

Hello and welcome. This is a great hobby especially when your first starting out as you can download free kits to try out. Unlike plastic when you make a mistake your done, here you can simply print another page, or entire kit, and try again.
Any questions, just ask, there is bound to be someone here that has an answer.

Welcome! Assuming you are building this one:

Schreiber-Bogen Bremen - 1928

If you are doing the full hull version, beware of lower hull plating issues. It may work to your advantage to cut the lower hull parts on the outside of their lines to improve fit. Also coloring the joining strips to match the plating will help as well.

Good luck and show us progress pictures.

Hello Greg
You're probably the reason I'm here, after scouring the internet, your build of this kit was the only one I could find. You discovered the underwater hull plating/order of assembly issue before I did. 91st anniversary of Bremen's launch date is the 16th of this month and I'm hoping to have something that looks like her by then. I have pix, have to figger out how to upload.

Thank you all for the encouragement
