Hello All!

Hello there,
I'm new to paper modelling but been bitten by the bug. I used to make scale models from wood and plastic etc, but time doesn't allow, and the major advantage of paper modelling for me is its a modelling activity that I can do after my watch - I work on board ship, so can just pop the whole lot in a drawer when I'm done and quickly restart when I'm back. No smelly glue or paints, no filing, no filler etc etc.
I went to Fentens and bought a load of kits and also the tools which (I hope!) will help me do the job.
Got some simple things like lighthouses, and other simple projects, but couldn't resist Bremen IV - but that will stay in the pile, and at the bottom, until I know what I'm doing.
Bought a book 'Card Modelling' Basic and advanced techniques - by Alvar Hansen. Now I'm home for a while so I can lounge around and read it!
I also love the idea I can make little free-to-download animals which my 5 girls will love! Quality time with the kids at this age! And relaxing time for myself when away.
So far I only completed the 'Shirase' Icebreaker (from 80gsm A3 copier paper!) and a little basic speed boat from Schrieber.
Am intrigued with the more complicated aspects of bending paper into compound curves. Guess I'll be learning along the way!

Good to see you Positive Rate.. yes, one BIG, "advantage" is that card models are a lot easier to store when not in use...

Hi Tim, FRD - What would be the largest or best manufacturer of paper models?

Hi Positive Rate, welcome to the forum. I saw your question and thought I'd give you an indirect answer to kit manufacturer: It depends more on who designed the model than who published the model. That being said most people would tell you that Halinski models are the 'best' overall. As far as brand with the most variety of kits available, I'm going to opine that would be GPM.

Hi Greg,

Thanks - I'm going to search for the mfrs you suggested. I shouldn't really, I have a stack from HMV I should start to whittle down.
Perhaps I'm better off looking for tools. I did buy several from HMV, some I use constantly, some v rarely or not at all.
Thanks for the tips!

Glad to have another convert on board. The nice thing about paper is that you can put your personal stamp on a kit, by adding 3D details that the designer provided only in 2D or not at all. Enjoy!
