I'm pleased to join PAPERMODELERS. I came across your site and was intrigued by the hobby. I'm retired (my relevant experience is as a engineer-naval architecture) and have recently been constructing model steam engines on my lathe and milling machine. I'm working as a volunteer at the Mariners Museum on the USS Monitor of which we have paper models in the gift shop. I look forward to trying my first paper project.

Welcome to the forum. Check out the site and there are a few models of the Monitor for your perusal. There are other War Between the states ship models as well. Welcome aboard.

Welcome gbhan, would love to see some photos of your steam engines. Are they non-operating replicas or live steam?

You will enjoy it, look out for posts by builders in them is great advice of how to do things. there or some great build threads on ship building and don't forget can look at other sections to get tips. I know I found out a lot of good tips the last few weeks myself. some were using what you got handy as well. Everyone has a used up ball point pen for example when you want to inent into card to get the look of rivets.
