Hanover
Quote:
I'm born and raised in Hanover. I have an affinity for WW2 stuff and I'm building a stockpile of WW2 models, airplanes, trucks, tanks and boats. I'm in the beginning stages of a PT boat build. I'm going to be posting pictures of the stages at some point. This is my first paper model build ever, never even heard of it till about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Built plastic models when I was a kid, but it's 45-50 years later now. I may be a little over my head starting out with this type of build, but I've found over the years the way my brain works, it's the fastest way for me to learn a new skill or hobby. |

I know Hanover somewhat well. The Utz factory and outlet was always a favorite. There used to be a couple hobby shops in that area, a NASCAR one in town, Great American hobbies and another one run by an older gentleman. The first two closed up while I still lived in PA. Don't know about the third one's fate.
Kcstephens and Don Boose are both close to you in proximity. Once this virus stuff is over, they might be able to give you the skinny on the paper model events that occur near you. There are a couple annual ones, one in Carlisle and one in Sterling, VA (DC area). greg

I just recently saw a youtube video of the event in VA, looked pretty cool, amazing models! Funny you mention the hobby shops, the Great American Hobby Shop, that was located on High St. behind Tractor supply wound up being my neighbor directly across the street from me when we moved back in 2014. We talk from time to time and he's been having some health issues the last couple years, but seems to be ok. The other one was Strickler's hobby shop on Broadway. I used to go in there about 10 years ago during a previous HO slot car hobby( I built a 4 lane track that just barely fit on a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood and had a computer hooked up via printer cable to IR leds for counting laps) looking for stuff. Alot of his stuff seemed to have been sitting around for years. He was like 70 then and his mother was still alive and they lived upstairs. I don't recollect the Nascar hobby shop, unless it was the store on the corner of Pleasant st and Baltimore st. I've had numerous hobbies over the years, and my wife just rolls her eyes and laughs when I tell her of my new hobbies, and this is my last one. |
