Noswaith dda pawb !

Hi there everyone from South Wales, in the UK (the title means "Good evening everybody" in Welsh).
I'm a modeller of over 50 years experience in just about every medium except card/paper, so I've decided to give it a try. I have won many awards for my models over the years and do a bit of semi-professional building of plastic and resin kits of aircraft, military vehicles and ships.
My interest has been sharpened because I recently acquired a 1/200 GPM card model of the British WW2 destroyer HMS Glowworm. Now, I can hear you all shouting out "that is not a beginner's kit, leave it alone" - I know this, so will be building some simpler models at first to try and gain (or learn how to transfer) some skills before starting Glowworm.
I should add that there is a family connection to that particular ship - it's captain, Gerard Roope, won a posthumous Victoria Cross in April 1940 when, in a completely one sided naval action off Norway, he rammed the much larger German cruiser Admiral Hipper with the Glowworm - the VC was awarded later mainly on the evidence provided by the Hipper's captain. My Mother comes from the Roope family.
So, I shall be spending time on the site, trying to learn as much as I can before starting my first kit.
Best wishes to everyone.

It's not a beginner kit - but then again you are not a beginner modeler :P

Welcome and please make yourself comfortable here. I am a great fan of Royal Navy ships and look forward to seeing your build.

Welcome, good idea to do a couple of simpler kits just to get used to how paper works...then jump in.

Welcome. I think most of us have at least one model that means something to the builder. Motivation to do a great job.

Have you decided on a project to get you started in paper? It may sound odd, but many have found it helpful. I would do a couple of the Canon one-page animals to get used to how paper behaves. Handling the curves is helpful for doing aircraft and ships that aren't boxy.

And read up. The forum here is an excellent resource
