Welcome to the group, if only as a lurker. Be careful, though....this hobby has something for just about everyone....resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

I have to make an admission. Don and I have hung out together in one way or another for something going on 60 years, and my wife and I were introduced to Lil about 30 years ago. This may be totally off-topic, but you can't find a nicer family -- especially a 3-generation family that enjoys and supports card modeling (and just about every other kind of modeling, for that matter). Lil is the only spouse I know that picks up card droppings rather than vacuuming them.... The only way to maintain peace in a card modeling house.

Hi Lil! My adorable wife also serves happily as a holder of drying parts! She is almost the only person that I trust to handle my models without damaging them - certainly not my parents. She actually encourages me to buy kits and tools and whatnot... also she does pick up bits from the floor instead of vacuuming them and frequently saves parts from excessively inquisitive cats.

Thank you all for your very kind and welcoming comments.

I really enjoy reading the discussions, laughing at your humor, and admiring your beautiful models. I will not be doing much posting myself, but will be silently lurking, and enjoying being an observer of your camaraderie.
It has been interesting to see Don grappling with the Hampden model and I know he appreciates all the help and encouragement he has received from so many of you. I don’t know if he will finish it successfully and on time, but maybe it is a hopeful sign that last night he was sitting at his desk, holding the half-finished model at arm’s length, and making rumbling noises that he assures me is the sound of a pair of Bristol Pegasus engines echoing off the surface of the North Sea from an altitude of 500 feet on a moonless night.

My greatest fear is that Mr. Trotskiy will issue a new Japanese airplane on the same morning that Don has to give a lecture. If you hear of an Army War College professor getting fired for arriving two hours late for class and, instead of lecturing on classical Chinese military theory or the Russo-Japanese War, puzzling the audience by explaining the differences between version 2.5a and 2.5b of the Tokyo Gasu Denki Type 97 torpedo bomber, that will be my husband.

Love and good luck to you all.

Lil

I love it! It sounds like you know your husband well :D I do the same thing with my planes. My wife often laughs at me when I'm "flying" my planes.

Avatar Picture

The picture I chose for my Avatar is one of my favorites. It is from a photo of Don and me standing on the stern of the Japanese destroyer Shirayuki during a Maritime Self Defense Force naval review in November 1989.

Here is the whole picture.
