Prudenzio Contest - Cuirassier 1807 at half size
I'm starting to build this calvary model at 50% of the original. Here are the build pic of the soldier. Strips of black thread were cut and untangled to use as hair and moustache. You have to be very careful when cutting out the vanes (wonder are these called vanes) and glue them on the edge of the upright part of the helmet. Then I let it dry completely before curving the vanes over and over many times. Please enjoy the pics.

Would they be "manes" instead of "vanes". Would love to know the proper name of it. Enlighten me please.

Interesting the French have a unit the 12th Cuirassaier regiment
formed in 1688 and their last major battle was at Strasburg in 1944. |

Decided to put in some actions to the cavalryman and the horse and been working intensively on the cavalryman that build pics were forgotten. Only got to the point when building the horse that pics came back to my mind and here they are. Didn't follow exactly Zio's way of joining both halves of the horse as seams are clearly noticable like joining the neck part. I used mostly join tabs and when coming to the belly, I cut away the tabs alternately so that they kind of mesh up when pushed inward for gluing. The interesting part is here. A hole at the end of the belly join line appeared and needed patching up. Hey, I said, that's the opening for the genitals. So I added genitals to show that this is a stallion and not a mare. Will show pic later and hoped it would not be censored.

Here it is the horse's genitals. Yeah, don't worry, I'll paint it with matching colour of the horse's body in due course. Must admit having to make reference to numerous images on google to get this done, I mean in its normal state. You see here in HK, the only horses we see are those at the race course and as a non-punter, I did not have too much interest in horses until now.

This looks like its coming along beautifully. I like your method of trimming the alternating tabs. Do you think it was easier/better than separate tabs?

I think it is easier but only in situation where you have to close the joint and where there is no way you can get your fingers or any apparatus at all to go inside to do it. It is like closing a tyre in Yamaha's bikes.
In my last but one post, I mentioned putting in actions. What I am doing and have largely completed is changing the pose of the cavalryman's right hand such that he is holding the sword straight ahead like he is charging. As for the horse, it is standing on its hind legs and with his front legs in the air. Will post completed pics soon. Papermate |
