....and whilst I'm on the Malcolm Topp sales pitch, here is his Swallow model - all models except the Osprey are pretty much life-sized and require quite a lot of reasonably straightforward cutting.

And a couple of Johan Scherft's excellent models, the Hoopoe to be followed in next post by the Firecrest. Am I sending them too big...?

Nope, only the last entered will upload - very annoying - sorry folks. I'm sending from my iPad from an hotel in Glasgow UK so not on my trusty computer. I have no way of knowing file size. The last one was the Firecrest - here is the Hoopoe.

Tony - very nice.

I am building the Firecrest at the moment and have the Merlin to do next, followed by the Hoopoe, so it was nice to see these photos!

Hey Kevin. They are fantastic models and make great gifts for discerning youngsters as they hang so beautifully from a lightshade... and the Osprey is a triumph of art and paper-engineering, so something to aim for! Enjoy the build and please post the results to share the joy of these informative and lively kits. Now, who can produce an accurate bird model kit using the power of computers.....

Some excellent models there Tony.

Can't help you on putting up a series of pictures, 'cos I've not sussed out how to do it either. I'm still using the Photobucket method to publish my pictures, but it does throw 'em up a bit big like.

I thought all Malcolm Topp's models were life size. What makes you say 'except the Osprey' ? The one I have does say 'Lifesize in authentic colour' on it.

The half size one I made (See Kevin's Woodpecker thread) was made by scanning the original, then printing on A4 as 'Fit to page'.

I also note that you say Malcolm's models originated in the 70's, or was that just when you first found them?

My Osprey has a 1983 copyright notification on it, but I clearly remember my Dad helping me build a few of them, quite some years before I joined the Army in 1962. Pretty damn sure they were by Malcolm, and distributed through the RSPB. Back then they were printed on paper and we had to utilize cornflakes boxes to stiffen them up.

Keep on snippin'

Johnny.

PS: My first three Bee Eaters now have bodies. Should be ready to show by the weekend, but I'll probably delay piccies until there's six of them.

Well, here are a couple of fantasy birds: Ravengod, from World of Warcraft, and Canon's Chinese Phoenix (the famous Dead Chicken).

papercraft Johan Scherft

There ya go Rich ... but they're not free ... 5 Euro by card or Paypal.

There's no auto-responder though. He's an artist, not a trader. You have to wait for Johan to notice the order, which might end up in his spam box. A couple of us have had to email him to get it sent, but he does come good, and the model is worth the price.

Johnny.
