Yep ... it blows up to A3 fine too ...
I used the Gimp to paint out all the blue fold lines and stuffed it with toilet tissue to accentuate the curves. I also did a 3D job on the feet. Tried the twisted tissue inside technique this time. It works a treat, but it still took longer to make the feet than it took to build the rest of the bird. Keep on snippin' .... Johnny. |

It's still only about 1:2 scale Doug. Have you seen the size of a Raven? I was shocked rigid when I saw the flock at the Tower of London. Mind you, I was only a little boy back then. P'raps they're not really as big as my memory is tellin' me, but I remember I was convinced they were big enough to ride on. The Beefeater (Yeomen of the Guard) sort of dissuaded me from that idea though.
A tip, for anyone else that fancies blowing this one up to A3 ... I tried to give the wings some thickness by putting some packing case card inside them. It did work well, but I made it 1/4" smaller than the wing all round and I should have brought it closer to the edge, so that the outer layer wrapped around it to give a thicker edge. As I've done it, the inside and outside edges still come together in a sharp edge, so the added thickness doesn't really notice. Still snippin' ... Johnny. PS: I've had no further info from Amazon UK on Johan's book. Fingers crossed for this month, eh? |

Yep, I have seen a raven . They are big birds.
Trying to explain to someone how big some birds are who has never seen a raven or an eagle except on the TV or in movies is fun. You explain that a raven could have a wingspan of almost 5 feet or that eagles can have a wingspan of around 8 feet and that gets them thinking. Too bad those nature shows don't give a true sense of scale.

Would anyone here know where I could get a model of a downy woodpecker? (I love birds and the Downy Woodpecker is my favorite other than the American Goldfinch, and the Stellar Jay!)
Thank you in advance! -RunwayOneSixRight |

If you find one, let us know ... that is a real pretty bird.
I Googled it, and there's lots of pictures. Short of emailing Johan a different picture every day until he takes the hint , I'm afraid I don't know anyone that takes on commission work with birds. Mind you, it could be worth approaching some of the artists on Deviant Arts. Johnny. |
