I know I read a post where someone mentioned another way to put the birds together by cutting off the tabs and using something else so the edges butt, not over lap, but I can't find it again.
Can anyone explain to me exactly how you go about that? |

They are called "joiner strips". Using either a light card or bond paper, you glue part of it to one side of the kit part,
then glue it UNDER the second kit part, aligning them to present an even surface along the join line. Like this if it helps you visualize it. Kit part ------ Joiner strip _______ -----_____------ Of course, the kit parts would be "butt joined" at the seam.

Here's an old bird build of mine where I use joiner strips on the owl's head seams. It should give you a better idea of what it means.

Thanks John, that is an excellent example.
Much better than my keyboard scratching!

Thank you both. Both were helpful. I can't wait to try this with a bird and see if I can get a better, smoother bird. I also was very intrigued with the burnishing idea.

I can't publish a pointer here as I found it on a Russian Pirate, but I will build it soon and publish pictures here.
