Hi John,

I can imagine that your local birds will have their fun. By the way, our pets (cats and dog) have absolutely no interest in those paperbirds. Not even sniffing.

We offer our own HMV models at amazon.co.uk but the other models are only available at www.kartonmodellbau.de. If you need any help there, let me know. But p&p is reasonable - it's 6.90 Euro per order and above 100 Euro it's free shipping to the UK.

Did you ever come across a model of a Laughing Kookaburra? I'd love to have one of those on the shelf.

I will keep on snippin'
Ben

I agree there Ben, a Kookaburra would indeed make a fine model subject. Perhaps we can suggest it to Johan, but meantime this is the best I can find ...

Methinks perhaps not quite what you were looking for though ?

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

A Kookaburra - hm - but why not. Let me think about that. Need something to practise anyway.

Johnny - I recommend the HMV website - I use them for most of my purchases and they are really good in terms of cost, postage, range, packing etc!!!!

I spent all me pocket money on that last lot of BirdMobile kits from the Hobbit Kev. I've now got them all, but I gotta behave a bit 'til after Xmas now as 'er indoors requires to use me card for Xmas ... Bah, Humbug, and all that.

But come new year, all those German birds will be mine. They look every bit as good as Johan's, but it says "Easy to make" on all the covers.

What with my ever growing stash of S&P airyplanes and a growing pile of birds, I guess I'm just gonna have to live a few more years yet. in order to get them all done. Oh, yeah ... the box full of medieval buildings still needs stitching into a diorama too ... not to mention the paper model archives on the HDD that the secret-squirrels managed to resurrect for me.

Best I get a faster pair of scissors,eh?

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

PS: Long time no piccies Kev. This is your thread y'know.

Thanks, Kevin!

John, if you ever find these faster sicssors please share the source. I'd really make use of them. Along with the turbo scalpell and the extra time dispenser.

Referring back to my post #498 ...

By zooming in on the pictures, I've just realised that six of the seven have got Johan's name on them, so they're definitely gonna be good, but again it makes me doubt that "Easy to make" statement. I want them even more now. Move over Xmas, roll on New Year.

Y'know, I've not made the connection before, but I've just realised that even my favourite snippin' tool is BIRD shaped ...

Keep on snippin' ... Johnny.

There used to be a life-size papermodel of a Laughing Kookaburra. I got this one from Scheuer & Strüver (now Moduni.de) in the mid 1990s:

THE BIRDS (all things bird model related!)-abif-kookaburra.jpg

It was quite common at the time, but seems to be scarce now. It was the second of a series of three papermodel birds called "Australian Birds in Flight" - the first one, a Galah Parrot, was even bigger, and until recently Diderick A. den Bakker had one for sale at his site, but this unfortunately seems to no longer be listed. The third in the series was of the Lorikeet Parrot - a pair, I believe.

Cheers,

Mike

Hmmm? I'll have to start monitoring the Australian eBay for these.
They look a lot like Malcolm Topp's BirdMobile kits.
I wonder if he once took a trip?

Johnny.

Hi Johnny,

To my eye, the Kookaburra is not quite as refined as the BirdMobile models, but still very good, especially for such a large bird.

I have not seen these on Australian eBay recently, I keep getting hits instead for Kookaburra cricket bats. And searching for Lorikeet models, I got a hit for bird diapers

Here is a link to the Italian version of ABEBooks, with the Galah - I would love to see this built in your usual style!

And here is a mysterious-looking Amazon link, which is new since last night

Cheers,

Mike
