We have two oldies.

Biscuit is now 17. She is a lovely cat - had her from a little kitten. She was given to my wife as a present. Very gentle with a non-aggressive temperament. Very loving and very "needy".

Our oldest Missy is 20 - see here for a pic of her a year ago - http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/713665-post1645.html.

Seems like yesterday we got her! We noticed the other day she has gone deaf and she is a little rickety and grumpy. But still sometimes sprints around like a kitten when it is warm. Here she is today...

--------------------------------------

We have 4 other cats ranging in age. The one behind Missy in the pic above is a feral, Mandiki. Our latest, William, arrived this time last year and refused to go! If we can rehome him we will - he is a very loving cat, a youngster (maybe 18 months) and a real big cat in size. Weighs just under 8 kg (he is fat as well!).

--------------------------------------

Lastly, Picture 1 below is of a nice age chart at the local vets.

Two of my oldest cats were Max and Maxine (they were named before I got them). Maxine was a Manx and made it one month shy of 21. Max made it two months shy of 20. Max was blind for his last 15 years. Moved around mostly by habit, but he would listen to the sound of his voice bouncing off walls when he knew he was close to where he should turn. I'm just glad that for the most part he slept through the night while I was trying to sleep

Interesting.

We have never had a blind cat.

Looking the topic up I see...

"Blind cats rely on touch, scent, sound and memory to find their way around. To judge proximity to objects, they use their whiskers a lot more than sighted cats. This means that their whiskers are subjected to more wear and tear than usual, so their whiskers can be broken or even worn down.

Some blind cats appear to listen for sound echoes to help them navigate, and some also walk with their tail tip touching the ground as an additional sense organ.

Construction company began this morning to rearrange the ground of vacant lot, former small crop field, next to our apartments where an urgent care clinic is going to be built.
Lot has been vacant and un-farmed for a decade.
Grumman and Georgie cats watched the activity on and off from their window perches.

A few minutes ago Georgie was sitting up surveying the scene with an expression which sure looked like,
"Holy scoopable clay blends Batman, they've made the biggest litterbox I've ever seen!"

SWF - do they do Environmental Impact Studies before doing work like that?

The cat news has been slow here. I will have to find some more pics to post!

And Gary, you have been quiet for a long time. Is everything OK?

So, in the last couple of years, instead of reducing cats we have accumulated more, bringing the family up to six!

Not through choice. We were down to a comfortable 3 and then rescued one we found literally living in the wild - with days numbered before it was taken by a predator or bird of prey. That is Smudgie - a super-loving little cat.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Then two years a stray pitched up and stayed in the garden. A tiny little animal - like a miniature white and grey Norwegian Forest Cat. Called Croak - because she sounds like a frog when she meows. She moved in!

And that just leaves the latest - William. I will post some pics of him later.
