Yesterday was on phone with a member of our creative writers group who is recovering from that world famous virus and she commented that one member who has a dog, and I with my 2 orange tabby fellows, treat them like roommates instead of pets.
Huh? I actually don't understand what that means. She didn't detail what it means and I decided not to ask. Later I thought that given the psychological composition of cats, they pretty much Are roommates.

Perhaps a bit of a tangent, but given how cats chase flies, maybe not a tangent at all,
The South African farm turning flies into food for pets - and maybe people Published 4 days ago "There is a burgeoning demand for insects as a source of protein in pet food. Photographer Tommy Trenchard visited a fly farm in Cape Town, South Africa, that is hoping to benefit. Launched in 2018 on an industrial estate on the edge of the city, the Maltento farm feels a long way from its more conventional rural equivalent. Yet each month it pumps out over 10 tonnes of high quality protein-rich feed, most of it destined for export overseas. " ... "Rather than looking to directly challenge the massive global soy or fishmeal industries, which currently provide much of the world's affordable protein, Maltento is looking to offer products that supplement a pet food's flavour or nutritional properties." Been going on for quite a few years now I see. Glad to see it is still in operation. The original plan was also to produce protein rich food for humans.

Well, I got home from the folks' to find that my cats ripped the accordion extension on one side of a window air conditioner out, and two of them were not home when I got here. After taking care of the remaining inside cat and the two ferals, I did some wood-working to fix the hole and Calico was on the patio out back and came in. While I was on the phone with one of my agents, GrayC showed up and is back in.
Whew

Well, this morning everyone was where they should be. The one I was most worried about was GrayC. She is declawed on her front paws, so she wouldn't be able to defend herself. She also was notorious for having no fear of traffic before she became an inside cat. Rat, the feral tom, is notorious for grabbing other cats by the back of the neck, and I think GrayC had his attentions at least once on her adventure. She has one wound down by her shoulders and another on the back of her head. Also a wound on her left ear. It was a chore getting the seeds out of her fur last night, but she always likes being groomed, so she was happy to be back in.
Where they got out was behind the work table in my office. My repair work consisted of bending an old license plate to fit the hole, cutting two boards to fit the area, with one on either side of the plate, screwed together from the inside. I crammed some rag towels between my work and the table to give a little extra insulation. They were dug out and left on the floor this AM. They weren't really necessary, so they will be washed and put back in the rag bin

Skilled breakout cats!
Why was GreyC declawed? Is Rat spayed? Normally once spayed they stop the aggressive behaviour.
