Another Sparrow, a White-Throated

I was going to move on to a more different bird, but I could not resist making a White-Throated. Oddly enough one showed up in my yard for the first time this week. I have lived in this house since I stated birding, about 45 years ago, so the suggestion was strong to build one! Since the overall bird isn't that different than the White Crowned, not that many changes would be needed to the body, didn't need to paint the whole bird, just some differences in shade, but the head is a redraw with watercolor. I decided to make it like the one hopping around that day, with closed beak and standing instead of perching. The beak turned out cool when I added a card upper mandible, otherwise it was too narrow, turned out to be a bigger change for realism than expected. I've made 3 of them now, but this one is the best, took awhile to decide on some thing so kept tinkering. People are asking me for birds now ha, so the other 2 will find a home somewhere. Not finished with base, but will likely use these paper leaves from the yard.

A beautiful and very realistic model, Glen!

There are a couple of these in the back garden right now. They (and the northern juncoes) are our winter birds. The white throats show up every year in mid October, the first juncoes of this year arrived a couple of days ago.

Looks very good. You are doing a great job making those birds. Should keep a cat interested for a little bit.

Now comes the elephant in the room question ... Is there any way you will consider distributing these repaints to us lesser skilled painters? Obviously, Johan should be consulted before that could be allowed to happen, but I for one would be willing to buy, as I'm sure many others would too.

Hi Johnny, I think that would be really cool to share, but I will have to ask Johan, he has been very kind in his correspondence (he liked the White Crowned)
