Hummingbird
Hello,
this is my very first uploading here so I hope I understood the instructions correct and will do everything properly. It looks today is a good day for little birdies. I prepared few images to be posted and when I poked into the ZOO gallery I found there a pair of firecrests freshly uploaded by avrahamrl (free model by Johan Sherft). Sherft's models are very fine but I didn't realise they are so popular. By chance, my prepared images concerned another free Sherft's little bird. So here you are a hummingbird. As for me I printed the pieces on a standard (80 g per sqm) A4 sheet of xerographic paper. However it required being printed twice, as the original set of pieces contained only one (two-sided) leg, and the beak must be added as well (I chose a toothpick painted black) but the pieces fitted perfectly. I am a building engineer myself and I often worked with polygonal nets so I found making 3D rounded paper parts slightly tricky nonetheless I am satisfied with the result. Now I must find a papermodel of some magnificent tropical flower to make a stand for my hummingbird. |

Beautiful!
A few years ago I found PRINTED kits by Johan Sherft at a hobby shop in the Netherlands. His style is unique; I did not have to read the labels on the kits to tell that he was the designer. |

Excellent hummingbird. A little jewel. The close up shows your paper modeling skill.
Good narrative with interesting and useful information on the model and the build. Looking forward to the magnificent tropical flower. Don |

If you build in a largish needle sticking out of the beak, you can simply stick it into a real flower to display it.

Exactly, that was my idea - I will try something of a kind (see the image below).
