"Long Billed" Marsh Wren

I gave away my wren model to a local artist that is really good and widely acclaimed, but left myself without one. I thought how fun to make a prettier colored wren, this one is my favorite having grown up here at the lake and spending lots of time around and in the marsh. (I really like the Winter Wren, and the Canyon Wren.... Now called the Marsh Wren, to differentiate from the Sedge Wren, when I was learning was called the "Short billed Marsh Wren.

The stripes on the back are pretty, although not as striking or musical as the Carolina Wren, still is a pretty little bird...very little. The Marsh Wrens nest in a globe-like structure of grass leaves, and have a hole underneath that they enter in. Amazingly the male keeps right on making more nests, so that 4-5 can be found nearby by the summer, often referred to by Ornithology as dummy nests, whether true or not they are very industrious builders. A little wren that most folks never meet due to it's quiet nature and deep marsh habitat.

This model is a simple recolor of Johan's free Wren, and the frog is his too although is really tiny spring peeper

Beautiful bird, Glen!

I really like wrens. We almost always have a Carolina Wren in our back garden.

Lil and I once saw a marsh wren on the Bayshore north west of Cape May many years ago. We often heard the distinctive rattling squeak, but only ever saw the bird once. I'm not sure what the distinction is between a long-billed marsh wren and the marsh wren we saw.

Nice work Glen.
The Wren looks very realistic, as you have it in a rather natural colored background.

Thank you for the kind comments, I didn't redraw this one with paintbrush, but by adjusting layers of color in photoshop, so didn't take that long, the grass and stem are paper, long roll for the stem no wire in that still, just paper tube hardened with ca glue. I probably could make this one available as the Johan's Wren is a free download.
It looks better in person but the details show up and color in the sun well...

Don I'm sure you saw this bird there, and the description of the song is spot on for it

If anyone wants to hear a remarkable wren song listen to the Canyon Wren on youtube, so amazing from a little wren.

I think this is now available thanks Rick, as a download, if you build it I would watch Johan's video especially if you want to make the bird singing
