Nice work on the base! Just be careful, the basil (and oregano) will dry up and get brittle, potentially making a mess. If the model isn't glued down you may think about spraying it with a clear sealer to prevent it.

Personally, for a couple bucks I'd pick up some of the rubber grass "sand" made for train layouts - same procedure but the grass will be smaller and look proper to scale, and not fall apart later. Just a thought, but your idea was some nice work with what was available.
