1/48 scale De Havilland DH 34 Airliner 1922

The DH 34 was a large British biplane of all-wood construction that was in brief but intensive operation, in the early 'twenties. This pioneering aircraft presented a number of design problems, including radiator header tank obscuring the pilot's view during take-off and a high landing speed. This with the hazards of early flying resulted in many of its type being lost due to accident.

2005
As a historic aviation subject, in it's all-red Daimler Hire Limited scheme, it took our eye at an early stage. The 1/144 scale model goes back six year ago. (An early take on the famous red livery, with too much scale colour going on).

2009
Now in 1/72 scale with much of the complex nose engineering tidily resolved.

2011 -Today
The final version in 1/48 scale hopefully in scale with the idea of 'Big is beautiful'. New engineering required particularly with access to better drawings and a few new photographs. A bit more work but we think the result will be worth it.

Note that the 1/48 scale fuselage has been given a coat of clear acrylic. These were shiny handsome red plywood birds and Rosie has depicted some of that rippling ply effect in the illustration.
