yes, i believe that is what they did. there may have been limited access to the main house from above. traditional urban house to house fighting, with connected buildings, is best done from the top down. this is partly because it can be tricky to throw grenades up stairs in a fire fight and have them stay there. once a structure is secured, an upper connecting wall is breached and the next adjacent building is assaulted. if there are similar buildings across the street, progress down a street is coordinated with assaualts on those as well.

for the abbottabad raid, there was just the single main structure that presented the challenge and it was only neccessary to use standard room clearing techniques to secure it after landing in the compound's clearing.
