Difficult to answer Rick, without knowing how much bandwidth and storage you have available and how it might affect the rest of the forum.
I'd also suggest that all uploaded files are vetted manually before you allow downloads of them. That would stop anything malicious from getting through or from crashing the site.
Personally I like the way that
www.kartonmodell-forum.org handle thier files section. Maybe we could have something similar to that??.
