As a member of the ECM staff, we aren't so picky about our photos that you must build with lap joints if the kit comes with them or can't rescale. We just prefer that the model photos don't show obvious major additions or have objects that would show a deviance in scale. Build the model with your normal style and to your preferred scale if you can mask the scale in your photos (ie, we'll be able to tell if you try a 1:33 model in 1:400 scale and skip a bunch of parts), but many of us can pull off 1:72 or even 1:200 without loss of detail. Small additions like rigging, antennae, a vacuform canopy, etc. are fine.
