For a big collection I believe a small scales is a ideal, I like a lot 1/100 because is not too big (like 1/72) and not too smaller (like 1/144).
Currently I have 95 models and I built an average of two to three per month depending on the complexity. I prefer to use e-models (DGA, Marek, Lad'N'Dad), but in many cases scaneio magazines that I buy in stores and reduce it to the 1/100.
